How to Play iThello
iThello is an iPhone (and iPod Touch) version of the popular board game Othello (or Reversi).
Objective: The object of the game is to have the most markers on the board at the end of the game.
Players: The game is played by two players. By default you are Black, and the computer is White.
Scoring: The scores are shown below the game board. Each score represents the total number of markers the player has on the board. When the game ends, the player with the higher score wins.
How to play: The game begins with 4 markers in the middle of the board, 2 Black and 2 White. Black always plays first. Black must begin by placing a marker on the board on an empty square. This empty square must be directly adjacent to a white marker, and must be in such a position that it forms a straight line (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) between itself, followed by one or more white markers, and finally another black marker, and there must be no empty spaces in this chain.
By default, available squares are shown by faded black markers on the board (this can be turned off through the game menu). Upon placing this new black marker, all the white markers lying on the straight line between it and any other black marker on the board are captured and turned black.
The computer then repeats the process with its white marker and captures at least one of your black markers. Players alternate after each marker is placed. If a player cannot make a move (if it is impossible to capture at least one of the opponent's markers), play passes to the next player. If both players cannot make a move, the game ends and a winner is declared.
